Start with the label
The US Food and Drug Administration recommends a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher as part of sun protection. A product’s texture or finish cannot replace that information. Read its directions for amount, timing, reapplication, and water-resistance where relevant.
Sunscreen is only one part of a sun-smart routine. Shade, clothing, sunglasses, and a hat can matter as well, especially during prolonged outdoor time.
Choose a format you can tolerate
A cream may feel comfortable for dry skin but heavy beneath makeup. A stick may be convenient for small areas yet require deliberate coverage. A spray may appeal for quick application but should be used exactly as directed. Try the format in your normal routine instead of assuming the most elegant texture is the best practical choice.
Plan for reapplication
The first application is not the whole day. Put a usable format where you will remember it, and follow the label’s reapplication instructions. A product you enjoy in the morning but never carry outside may need a companion option for travel or outdoor activity.
